Sony Ericsson has just announced the availability of the Xperia X8 in India for a street price of just under Rs.14,000. This puts it right between the X10 mini and the X10 mini pro.
The X8 features a larger 3.0-inch scratch resistance capacitive screen with a higher 320x480 resolution. To balance this out and keep the price down, the camera is now a 3.2MP fixed focus which seems to be the only major downside to this phone as off now.
The X8 comes with Android 1.6 that hopefully should be upgradable to 2.1 along with the X10 mini and pro. The rest of the features are pretty much the same with 3G, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth 2.1, microSD support upto 16GB, Stereo FM, etc.
The X8 looks like a very good alternative for all those who found the X10 mini's screen to be a bit too small. While this doesn't have a slide out QWERTY keyboard, the larger size of the screen should make texting a lot more bearable.
