Satellite Jointly Built By ISRO Successfully Launches

Advanced communication satellite HYLAS, built by ISRO on a commercial basis in partnership with Europe’s space leader EADS-Astrium, was on Saturday successfully launched from French Guyana.

Thirty five minutes after the lift-off (00.09 hrs IST) at Guyana Space Centre at Kourou in European Ariane-5 V198 launch vehicle, HYLAS separated from the launch vehicle after reaching its intended geosynchronous transfer orbit, an ISRO press release said.

ISRO’s Master Control Facility at Hassan in Karnataka successfully received radio signals transmitted by HYLAS (Highly Adaptable Satellite) and the satellite’s health is normal, it said.

HYLAS, developed for Avanti Communications, UK, comprises 10 high power transponders that use eight Ka and two Ku band frequencies.

Yana Gupta Wardrobe Malfunction at Child Reach NGO Event

Indian Models and Bollywood Actress Yana Gupta Manganese Ore India Ltd (MOIL) on November 26 will launch an initial public offering of shares that could raise up to $270 million, two sources with direct knowledge of the transaction said on Thursday.

The issue will close for institutional bidders on November 30 and on December 1 for retail investors, said the sources, who refused to be named as they were not authorised to speak to the media.

The firm, which is the largest producer of manganese ore in India, plans to invest 7.7 billion rupees ($170 million) over the next five years to boost capacity at its existing mines by about 40 per cent, its chairman said last month.

Manganese Ore filed a draft prospectus in September for its IPO . The federal government is selling a 10 per cent stake in the offer, while the state governments of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh are selling 5 percent each.

The wife of a businessman was robbed of her diamond necklace by bike-borne assailants in Karol Bagh area of central district late on Monday night.

Police officials said that the victim Saroj Oberoi, a resident ofKalkaji, had come to Ajmal Khan Park to attend a wedding ceremony when she was attacked by two persons travelling on a bike who rode away after snatching her necklace.

“It was around 11.30 pm when the incident took place. The victim got off her car and the bikers caught hold of her. They broke her necklace and pushed her. The chain was worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

She raised an alarm but by then the bikers had fled along with the booty. We are filing an FIR ,” said the senior police official.

LG Smartphone: LG Launches Latest Smartphone

LG on Thursday launched its latest smartphone ‘Optimus One‘ and announced plans to increase its mobile phone production capacity from 60-lakh units a year to 1.50-crore by the end of 2011.

Powered by the Android operating system, the new handset is priced at Rs.13,500 and comes with 8.1-cm display, 3MP camera and expandable memory up to 32GB.

“Over the next six months, we will launch ten more devices in the Optimus series, priced between Rs.8,000 and Rs.30,000,” LG Electronics India Managing Director Moon B. Shin told journalists here.

“Smartphones are poised to drive growth in the India mobile market in the coming years and LG’s focus on innovation based on thorough consumer research places us squarely at the forefront of that evolution.

Next year will be acceleration phase for LG mobiles, and investments are aligned towards taking at least 15 per cent of market share in the smartphone segment,” he said.
